What is legal aid?

Legal Aid NSW provides subsidised legal services to disadvantaged clients across NSW. MDV Family Lawyers are recognised legal aid panel practitioners, and can represent you on this basis, provided your application for a grant of legal aid has been approved. Find out more about determining your eligibility for Legal Aid.

Before you apply for legal aid

It is best to get legal advice before you apply for legal aid. Book an initial consultation with MDV Family Lawyers and bring your completed Legal Aid Application and supporting documents with you.

The supporting documents most commonly required to process your Application are:

  • Your completed Legal Aid Application;
  • Your most recent Centrelink Income Statement;
  • Your last three payslips if you are employed;
  • Your bank statements for all accounts for the last three months.

Note that if you have a partner you will be required to provide your partner’s documents in support of your Application also.
